One memorable stroll around Balboa Island, I met Bailey, a delightful dog who was sniffing a fellow dog–or so he thought. Bailey was playing with a green dog-shaped topiary, mistaking it for a real dog.
As a mindset coach, I’m always looking for engaging visuals to help my clients learn my MindShifts and reprogram their subconscious mind. Watching Bailey frolic with his plant friend offered a profound lesson in how the subconscious mind works.
Bailey, much like our subconscious mind, doesn’t know the difference between an imagined thought and reality. Just as Bailey obeys whatever you tell him, your subconscious mind will also accept and obey whatever you convince it to believe and imagine as real.
If your Bailey thinks something is impossible, it will make all decisions under that assumption. Your mind will be incapable of finding a solution to that problem. This is why so many people struggle in business and life.
It's not your fault.
Automatic reactions and subconscious thought patterns are part of the human condition. We all have an inner Bailey.
But Bailey doesn’t have to always be a limitation. The good news is, when you tell Bailey to sit, he sits. When you tell him to believe something, he will. In other words, the subconscious mind is trainable.
